Ashland, Minersville Sewer Authorities Receive State Funding

HARRISBURG – Senator James J. Rhoades (R-29) announced today that Schuylkill County will receive two state grants to improve the technology of local water and wastewater treatment facilities.

Ashland Borough has been awarded over $350,000 for installation of a Fluidized Bed Reactor process to achieve nutrient reduction to the Chesapeake Bay. In addition, over $270,000 in state funds will go to the Minersville Sewer Authority to upgrade its treatment facility from conventional mechanical aeration to fine-pore aeration.

The grants were awarded as part of the Growing Greener New or Innovative Water/Watershed Technology Grant Program. The program, administered by the state Department of Environmental Protection, focuses specifically on helping municipalities install new or innovative technologies in their operations.

"These grants will bring new and innovative technologies to our local water treatment facilities and will greatly improve their efficiency," Rhoades said. "I am very pleased we were able to secure this funding through the Growing Greener Program."
