Rhoades Presents Borough of Slatington with a $25,000 Grant

SLATINGTON – Senator James J. Rhoades (R-29) today presented officials from the Borough of Slatington with a check for $25,000 for the completion of the Slate Heritage Trail.

The funding was awarded through the Department of Community and Economic Development's Community Revitalization grant program.  The program's primary goal is to help local governments, non-profit organizations and industrial development agencies work to improve their local communities, said Rhoades.

"Not only does this trail provide the community with economic development and recreation opportunities, but it also offers citizens a chance to experience all that Slatington's historic district has to offer," said Rhoades. "I am more than pleased to present this check to the borough of Slatington."

Rhoades noted that the ongoing Slate Trail project is the direct result of a collaborative effort in the region involving a broad cross section of interesting, including service organizations, the historical society, resident, the business community, the Wildlands Conservancy and the Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor ( D&L). The Slate Trail will travel through various local neighborhoods and will be accessible to the general public.

"The Slate Trail will provide invaluable services and programs for our community, and will create and maintain outdoor recreation in the Commonwealth," Rhoades said.  "I know that this funding will be put to good use and go a long way toward helping the Borough in their efforts."
